Women's Tennis Drops Season Finale to EIU

CHARLESTON, Ill. -- 
Morehead State's women’s tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to Ohio Valley Conference foe Eastern Illinois on Sunday at the Charleston High School Courts to close out the 2013 spring season.
 
EIU improved to 12-5 overall and 7-3 in the OVC, while MSU finished the year at 3-17 overall and 2-8 in league play.
 
The Panthers conquered the doubles point by winning at Nos. 2 and 3. On court one, the pair of freshman Briar Preston and senior Victoria Cran defeated Janelle Prisner and Merritt Whitley, 8-4.
 
In singles action EIU took courts two through six. The Eagles' only victory came at No. 1 when Preston knocked of Prisner 6-1, 2-6, 10-3. At No. 2, Cran lost to Whitley in three sets, 6-7, 7-6,10-6. On court three, Sephora Boulbahaiem knocked off freshman Sandrine Beaule 6-2, 6-0.
 
At No. 4 Jennifer Kim defeated freshman Lissa Pacheco-Brousseau 6-4, 6-2. On court five, Ali Foster dropped freshman Dominique McLean 6-3, 6-1. At No. 6 Kristen Laird swept freshman Morgan Wright 6-0, 6-0.

MSU will look ahead to the 2013-14 campaign. Five of the six everyday starters for this spring season were freshmen slated to return with a year of collegiate experience now.
