Women's Tennis battles JMU but falls 6-1

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W. Va.— Morehead State women's tennis fell to James Madison, 6-1, at The Greenbriar on Saturday evening.
 
Freshman Zina Mehikic and Rachel Nelson had the match of the day with Mehikic coming out victorious. In a highly-contested first set, the pair traded shots as Mehikic out lasted Nelson, 7-5. Nelson battled back with a fury of drops to win the second set, 6-4. But it was Mehikic overcoming the attack in the third set, 10-5, claiming her first collegiate win in singles play.
 
Sophomore Maria Orellana challenged Kimmy Herrock, but came up short, losing in straight sets 6-3, 6-4. Fellow sophomore Aleksandra Savic competed step-for-step with Dylan Owens, but suffered the same fate dropping both sets 7-5, 6-4.
 
In doubles competition the tandem of senior Ayaka Terashi and Mehikic faltered to Abby Amos and Rebecca Harris, 6-2. Junior Hayley Wild and Orellana took on Bella Heidreich and Timea Guibe, falling 6-1. Freshman Lindsey Wild and Savic were defeated 6-0 by Emma Peterson and Owens.
 
Morehead State will have a quick turnaround as it will host Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) on Tuesday at the EAGLE Center at 1 p.m. ET.
