Box Score

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.--  Morehead State women's tennis grabbed its third Ohio Valley Conference victory of the season, defeating Southeast Missouri 5-2 on Saturday afternoon at the Redhawk Tennis Complex.

The Eagles (3-15, 3-5) snapped a three-match losing streak and have recorded back-to-back victories against Southeast Missouri. The Redhawks (1-17, 0-8) have lost 16 straight matches and are winless in the OVC.

"Very proud of the girls bouncing back today, it's been a long season but we've done nothing but fight hard and continue to build," said Head Coach Kevin Fulton. "These girls never give up. Looking forward to a good week of practice and next weekend"

Morehead State picked up the doubles point by scoring a default win in one of the three matches, followed by senior Ayaka Terashi and freshman Zina Mehikic claiming a 6-2 victory.

Mehikic's day continued to evolve into singles play as she picked up a three-set win against Mila Majtan. Jumping out to an early first-set victory 6-3, Mehikic dueled with her opponent in the second set, faltering 6-4. She came back to take the match with a 6-2 third-set win. The victory marks the fourth in Mehikic's last five decisions.

Sophomore Aleksandra Savic picked up her first victory in her last three matches, defeating Ana Canahuate-Torres in three sets. Torres took the first set 6-4, but Savic swung momentum in the final two sets. The comeback began with Savic snatching the second set, 6-2. The final frame went decisively to Savic with a 6-3 win.

Junior Hayley Wild knotted her first victory in the previous four matches, defeating Annisa Warasanti in straight sets 6-4, 6-3.

The Eagles will wrap up their regular season on Friday against SIU Edwardsville and Saturday against Eastern Illinois at Sadler Courts.
