MOREHEAD, Ky. – Senior Chynna Bozeman scored 30 points, and the Morehead State women’s basketball team rallied for a 70-58 victory over visiting Austin Peay Saturday at Johnson Arena.
The Eagles stayed within point blank range of first place as they improved to 9-2 in the league and 16-6 overall. Coach Tom Hodges tied former MSU bench boss Matthew Mitchell for the most victories by a first-year coach.
For Bozeman, it marked her fourth 30-point output this season and the seventh of her career (two coming against APSU). She is now just one 30-point game behind MSU all-time career scoring leader Donna Murphy.
MSU also got a double-double from Courtney Lumpkin, the second of her career, with 18 points and a team high 11 rebounds. She also dished out a game-best six assists. Ashar Harris scored 12.
The Lady Govs’ point guard, Nicole Olszewski, led her team with 15 points. Meghan Bussabarger chipped in with a double-double of 12 points and 10 boards. 
Leading 32-30 at the half, the Lady Govs increased their margin to 38-33 after a Dalila Thomas bucket at 16:34. But, the Eagles put together a 15-4 run, capped by a Bozeman lay-in, to build a 48-40 lead with 11:08 left in the game.
APSU crept back to within 52-47, but the Eagles scored the next eight to build a double-digit lead at 60-47.
In the opening half, three-pointers by Lumpkin and Bozeman sparked a 10-4 run for MSU to begin the game, but then the Lady Govs answered with a 10-2 run to claim their first lead, 14-12, at the 11:45 mark.
APSU increased its lead to 28-17 before the Eagles began a 13-4 to end the half. Lumpkin sank a jumper at the 5:04 mark and Harris got free for a pair of layups in the last minute as MSU climbed back  within two at 32-30.
Both teams had difficulties controlling the ball in the fast-paced half as APSU turned it over 12 times while MSU committed 11 mistakes.
For the game, the Eagles shot 38 percent but forced 23 APSU turnovers and had 12 steals. APSU out-rebounded the hosts 44-40.
The Eagles have a crucial OVC road trip this week, starting with a 6:15 p.m. EST game at Jacksonville State Thursday.
