Phil Simms played football for Morehead State from 1975-78. He lettered all four years for the MSU Eagles. He was named the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the year in 1977. He finished his career at MSU with 5,545 passing years and 32 touchdowns.

Simms came to Morehead State from Louisville Southern High School in 1975. In addition to being named OVC Player of the Year, he was an All-OVC First-Team selection. After his playing days at MSU, he was drafted seventh overall in the 1979 NFL draft by the New York Giants.

Simms spent 15 years in the National Football League. When he retired from the New York Giants he held 19 team records. As an All-Pro quarterback, he led the Giants to two Super Bowl victories. In Super Bowl XXI, he completed 22 of 25 passes to defeat the Denver Broncos, 39-20. The victory gave the Giants their first Super Bowl title and Simms earned Most Valuable Player honors. He also led the Giants to their second Super Bowl title in 1990 against the Buffalo Bills with a mark of 20-19.

Simms was selected to two Pro Bowls during his career. In the 1985 Pro Bowl, he was named the MVP. He was also named All-Pro in 1986. He set team marks for most passes completed and attempted for one game (40 completed, 62 attempted), season (286, 533) and career (2,576, 4,647), most career touchdown passes (199) and most 300-yard games in a career (21). He was named the League’s MVP in 1986. Simms’ number 11 jersey was retired by the Giants in September 1994.

Simms joined CBS Sports in 1998 as a lead analyst for the CBS Television Network’s coverage of the NFL. He was also a studio analyst and co-host for ESPN and lead NFL analyst for NBC Sports. He is currently working for CBS Television Network’s coverage of the NFL.

Simms is married to his wife Diana. They have three children together, Christopher, Matthew and Deirdre. They currently live in Franklin Lakes, New Jersey.
