Charlie Adkins was a four-year letterwinner and pitcher for Morehead State from 1962-65. In 1964 he recorded an ERA of 1.48, an MSU record that still stands today.

Adkins, under the guidance of Head Coach Rex Chaney, helped MSU win the 1963 and 1964 Ohio Valley Conference east division titles. He posted a 12-8 record and led the Eagles with 55 strikeouts in 1965.

A native of Paintsville, Ky., Adkins went on to an illustrious 34-year career as his hometown’s high school head baseball coach. He totaled 805 victories and led the Tigers to the state title in 1990. He was inducted into the Paintsville Hall of Fame while still coaching the team. He retired from coaching in 2005 and passed away on April 21, 2010.
