John Horton was an All-American football player for Morehead State from 1934-38. He was the first All-American selection in Eagle football history.

A native of Mt. Sterling, Ky., Horton played on one of MSU’s most productive offensive football teams. He played center for MSU, where he opened up many holes for the Eagle running backs in what was then a rushing-oriented game.

In 1938, Horton helped the Eagles to a 76-0 opening day win over Lawrence Tech. At the time of his induction it was the third largest margin of victory in the football programs history. The 1938 team went on to score 58 points on three occasions. The Eagles finished with a 5-1-1 mark on the season. The only team that year to score on MSU was Murray State.
